Clean. Sleek. Gorgeous. Exciting. These are just some of the words being used to describe Etihad Airways’ cabin interiors for its forthcoming new Airbus A330neo twinjets — including an all-new First product — as revealed for the first time today at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai.
The praise is justified. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad has adopted a sublime ‘Beyond Borders’ design language inspired by the emirate’s natural landscape and architecture for its three-class, 280-seat A330neo widebodies, of which it holds six firm orders with Airbus plus a lease deal with Avolon for nine more of the type.
Up front on the A330neo, Etihad turned to Thompson Aero Seating for a fully customized version of the celebrated seatmaker’s staggered, forward-facing VantageXL and front-row VantageXL First lie-flats with direct aisle access for Business and First, respectively.
Configured 1-2-1, every First and Business platform features a sliding door. However, the four front-row First suites also offer extra living space and stowage, a personal powder station stocked with premium amenities, and a leather ottoman that can double as a companion seat.
In addition to providing more space in front-row biz-plus or first class suites, airlines are increasingly distinguishing these products with extra-large IFE screens. Etihad has already done so on its new three-class Airbus A321LR narrowbodies, fitting RAVE Aerospace (formerly Safran Passenger Innovations) 4K monitors from nose to tail but offering a larger 20″ screen in First as opposed to 17.3″ in Business.
And so it will be on the A330neo, with each First suite featuring a massive 32″ 4K IFE screen.
“Private when you want, together when you choose. Space to dine, unwind, and simply be together, with wireless charging woven quietly into the console. This is the Etihad A330 First,” the airline enthuses on the socials.
The 22”-wide seat stretches into a 78.5” bed. High suite walls in First — and a partition — create separation with the Business cabin.
Guests in the 24 Business seats can avail of a 4K inflight entertainment screen sized 17.3” and wireless charging.
The 252 seats in Economy are each 18″ wide and incorporate Etihad’s bespoke fixed-wing headrest (which first appeared over a dozen years ago on its A380s and 787s). 4K IFE screens sized 13.3” round out the baseline Economy offering.
A dedicated extra-legroom section includes 32 seats with four inches of additional pitch.
Underscoring the power of carefully chosen colors, materials and finish (CMF), Etihad has notably adopted Beyond Borders as the “next evolution” of its guest experience, saying it will bring the aesthetic to its A321LRs, and indeed progressively across its fleet and premium spaces.
“The A321LR showed what is possible when we challenge the expected model of narrowbody flying. We brought First and fully lie-flat Business to a single-aisle aircraft and guests have responded strongly to the experience it offers, actively choosing to fly on the aircraft,” explains Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves.
“Now we are taking the next step. At ATM, our new A330 brings Beyond Borders to life with an all-new cabin experience, while we are extending the Beyond Borders look and feel to our A321LR as we create greater consistency across the Etihad journey.”
Renowned for The Residence three-room suite on its A380s, Etihad has long been a leader in luxury long-haul travel. But with clear momentum behind first class, the airline is “doubling down on First” not only by bringing an exceptional First experience to its new A330neos, which will fly regional and medium-haul markets, but by “increasing the number of First seats across our fleet over the coming years,” Neves reveals.
“Beyond Borders goes beyond the aircraft and the seat. It is about the entire journey — our cabins, lounges, food, wellbeing, connectivity and the way we look after our guests. Over the coming months, we will continue to reveal how Beyond Borders is shaping the future Etihad experience, both on the ground and in the air,” he says.
The first of Etihad’s 15 new A330neos will enter service from September 2027, with the remainder delivered over a five-year period.
