Press Release hub banner blue with title in red white and blueRecaro Aircraft Seating has been selected by KLM Cityhopper, KLM’s regional carrier, to outfit the 21 Embraer 195-E2 aircraft recently ordered by the airline. Each aircraft will have a hybrid layout of Recaro BL3710 and SL3710 seats, and the first E195-E2 is slated for delivery in the first quarter of 2021.

Weighing a mere eight kilograms, the highly reliable SL3710 is the lowest weight in its category. A popular choice for regional airlines, the ergonomically optimized seat design is a win-win for passengers and airlines, as it reduces fuel costs for airlines without sacrificing comfort for the passenger.

The BL3710 combines ergonomic design with numerous inventive enhancement options to create the state-of-the-art seat model, which is considered to be the master of short and medium-haul flights. The seat’s design is distinctly Recaro and allows customers to select from a wide variety of armrests, upholstery and storage options. More importantly, the seat demonstrates “driving comfort in the sky” for all passengers due to the inseparable mix of function, ergonomics and aesthetics.

The unique cabin layout of the plane reflects Recaro and KLM’s dedication to reducing the carbon footprint, as it will optimize weight efficiency while still ensuring passenger comfort.

With 132 seats on board, the E195-E2 will be the largest aircraft in KLM Cityhopper’s fleet and will help accommodate growth. The partnership between these aviation industry innovators will only further enhance KLM’s sustainability initiative, “Fly Responsibly,” and the commitment of Recaro to the research and development of more efficient seats.

Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating: “I am eager to expand our business into the regional aviation sector by partnering with KLM, as they are a significant key player in Europe and a long-term Recaro customer.”

The Recaro BL3710 seat featured at the KLM Cityhopper stand at KLM’s open house in October, which celebrated the airlines’ 100-year anniversary with more than 65,000 visitors. Headquartered in Amsterdam with a fleet of more than 200 aircraft, KLM is the world’s oldest airline still operating under its original name.
