Press Release: Three Diehl entries in the CCA competition finals

Diehl Aerosystems, a First Tier Supplier and Partner for avionics and cabin integration for large aircraft manufacturers and a retrofit specialist for aircraft operators, has this year once again, as in the previous year, reached the final of the Crystal Cabin Award (CCA) competition with three entries. The CCA (www.crystal-cabin-award.com) is held yearly during the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, which is taking place this year between April 4 and 6.

At the beginning of March the CCA jury announced the finalists from a field of 85 approved participants – a record showing for all of the 11 years of the competition’s existence. There are seven categories, each with three entries in the final round, one of which will be awarded the prize to top the category. Diehl’s final entries are comprised of the following innovations:

“Digital Printing” the surface finishes of cabin linings. This process sees the decor of the cabin linings no longer pasted on as films; they are digitally printed directly onto the surface. This facilitates weight reduction – which in turn leads to a further reduction in fuel consumption – as well as more creative possibilities when it comes to the design of the cabin interior. “Digital Printing” is a promising candidate in the CCA category “Materials and Components”.

Diehl’s place in the “Passenger Comfort Equipment” category is filled by the “Galley Bar Module”. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik, offers a new amalgamation of galleys and bars for passengers.

The Diehl entry in the “Cabin Systems” category is “Power Line Communication” (PLC). PLC was developed in collaboration with the University of Lucerne and makes use of the network of electric-ity cables on board aircraft to transfer data. The winners of this year’s CCA will be announced on Tuesday, April 4 in Hamburg.
