Press Release: GT2517 completes GTC to operate on SES mPOWER MEO

Press Release hub banner blue with title in red white and blueThinKom, announced today that the ThinAir® GT2517 terminal completed SES’ Government Technology Certification (GTC) program to operate on SES’ O3b mPOWER MEO constellation.

The ThinAir GT2517 is the first airborne antenna to complete GTC, including productization, for the O3b mPOWER fleet on SES’ sovereign offering. ThinKom’s ThinAir GT2517 terminal can be deployed across the full range of SES Space and Defense (SESSD) assets, including Geostationary (GEO) and non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellites, which adhere to the Committee on National Security Systems Policy 12 (CNSSP-12) requirements.

By tapping into the SESSD Sovereign Services with the GT2517 terminal, government customers can access high throughput, low-latency capacity with guaranteed performance to support the secure, mission-critical needs of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and C2 missions.

ThinKom’s GT2517 platform brings market-leading spectral efficiency and multi-orbit support to the special mission aero segment in an optimal size, weight, and power (SWaP) configuration. The terminal’s low profile translates to reduced drag on wing, allowing for reduced fuel burn and longer time on station. The VICTS antenna’s highly directional nature and very low sidelobes inhibits the ingress of potentially harmful high-intensity radio frequency (RF) energy, which is the root cause of various electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) failures, and severe threats such as High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) and High-Power Microwave (HPM) attacks.

The GTC program streamlines the process for hardware providers to demonstrate compatibility with the O3b mPower constellation. ThinKom demonstrated compliance with open industry standards, allowing for predictable, repeatable terminal behavior. This includes support of both OpenAMIP and OpenBMIP, allowing for easy integration into the O3b mPOWER ecosystem.

Through the certification process, the SESSD Terminal Manager software module was integrated into the GT2517 offering, providing SESSD scheduling and resource allocation. The Type 3 certification includes ThinKom’s GT2517 antenna integrated with the next-generation Hughes HM400 software-defined modem. ThinKom also plans certification plans of its GT1717 terminal and additional modem configurations, to further expand the range of available options.

The ThinAir® GT product line delivers X-, Ku-, Ka-, Q- and V-band connectivity options suitable for installation on aircraft ranging from small executive transports to large cargo aircraft and is compatible with GSO and NGSO constellations.
