American Airlines plans to offer a new perk for Admirals Club customers traversing its Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) hub in North Carolina: a new on-the-go lounge that will enable them to grab fresh food and beverages before their flight.
The Provisions by Admirals Club lounge, which will open late summer at CLT’s Concourse A next to gate A1, is designed for “speed, simplicity and convenience,” says American, and has been created “for those with limited time looking for a quick break before continuing on their travel journey.”
The concept isn’t novel in industry. Delta Air Lines features grab-and-go areas in its Sky Club lounges at New York JFK and Atlanta. United Airlines offers Club Fly lounges in Denver and Houston. And Air Canada operates grab-and-go cafés at Montreal–Trudeau, Toronto Pearson, and in the downtown Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
American’s decision to offer a grab-and-go solution is just the latest example of how the US major is doubling down on its investment in the passenger experience. In May, the oneworld alliance member debuted new Flagship and Admirals Club lounges at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Terminal A West. And last month, it announced plans to convert its current Flagship lounge at Miami International into an expanded Admirals Club, while building out a brand-new Flagship lounge space with premium amenities.
Notably, American is also now flying premium-heavy Boeing 787-9Ps with doored Flagship Suite seats in business class and a new biz-plus offering called Flagship Suite Preferred.
American operates more than 670 peak-day departures from CLT, and the new Provisions by Admirals Club lounge will provide “a needed respite for our customers traveling through one of our biggest hubs,” American chief customer officer Heather Garboden says in a statement.
“Whether they’re looking for a quick snack or help on their travel journey, they can find what they need at the Provisions by Admirals Club lounge.”
Offering a variety of sandwiches, salads, snacks and fresh fruit, including vegetarian options, Provisions by Admirals Club will feature high-top standing tables and minimal furniture to create an environment that supports quick visits and high-volume traffic. It will also provide on-site customer support.
Entry to the new space follows the same policies as traditional Admirals Club locations, says American. Domestic travelers can access the quick-break lounge through an Admirals Club membership, qualifying oneworld status or the Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive credit card. Eligible AAdvantage status members can also access the lounge when traveling on qualifying international flights.
Customers may also purchase a One Day Pass, eligible for 24 hours, for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles.
