Pioneering author of aircraft interiors ‘bible’ goes digital

LeanIntoAviation (3)For the past 10 years, Jennifer Coutts Clay’s book, Jetliner Cabins, has served as a ‘bible’ about aircraft interiors.

Published in hard cover in 2003 and in paperback in 2006, Jetliner Cabins identified trend-setting airlines and suppliers, while tracking and illustrating the progression of interior programs (from carpets to bulkheads and everything in-between) during the course of modern commercial aviation history.

Now Coutts Clay – a pioneering women in aviation, and a prominent figure in the world of aircraft interiors – has launched a digital reinvention of her classic book in the form of an App for Android and iOS.

With four major sections covering product branding, passenger experience, cabin maintenance and marketing challenges, the Jetliner Cabins: Evolution & Innovation E-Book App features updated original content, approximately 30% all-new material, and over 4,000 pictures spread over 21 picture galleries.

A new chapter looks at how ‘green’ innovations are shaping the cabins of tomorrow. In tribute to the glory days of passenger aviation, Coutts Clay’s lauded Concorde presentation has been expanded, and there are new case studies analyzing cabin programs implemented by Braniff and Pan Am. New feature-length guest essays cover buy-on-board programs and inflight entertainment systems.

“I am delighted to see the E-Book development of Jetliner Cabins: Evolution & Innovation. From the reviews of the two earlier editions it was clear that the material was of interest not just to aviation enthusiasts but also to a much wider readership,” says Coutts Clay.

“Thanks to advances in digital publishing, we can now navigate the content according to personal preference. I hope that readers will enjoy visiting the hundreds of aircraft-interior scenarios that are portrayed in this new edition.”

The updated website and E-Book App are now available. You can also access more information about Jetliner Cabins in the video below.
