Press Release hub banner blue with title in red white and blueAssaia, the leader in AI-enabled turnaround management, today announced that Munich Airport (MUC) has selected its ApronAI solution to optimize turnaround operations and enhance ramp efficiency across 150 gates initially, with plans for further expansion. Serving nearly 42 million passengers in 2024, Munich is Germany’s second-busiest airport and a critical European hub.

The rollout is part of MUC’s broader strategy to improve operational performance and sustainability by leveraging real-time data and automation. Assaia’s ApronAI uses advanced video analytics, computer vision, and machine learning to continuously monitor aircraft turnaround processes, detect key milestones, and generate actionable alerts. This enables operations teams to proactively address issues that could impact on-time performance (OTP), resource efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.

Thomas Hoff Andersson, Chief Operating Officer, Munich Airport, says: “For Munich Airport, it’s a critical step towards enhancing our operations using data and artificial intelligence. With Assaia’s technology, we’re able to better understand what’s happening on the apron in real time, allowing us to streamline processes and improve decision-making, ultimately delivering a better experience for our passengers.”

Jan Willem Kappes, SVP Global Sales, Assaia, says: “Munich Airport plays a critical role in European aviation, and we’re proud to be supporting its vision with our technology. ApronAI doesn’t just monitor, it empowers predictive and proactive decision-making. With full transparency of operations, airports like MUC can eliminate bottlenecks, boost OTP and grow sustainably without immediate infrastructure developments.”

The deployment comes at a critical time as airports face mounting pressure to increase throughput, improve passenger experience, and reduce environmental impact.

“With growing traffic and increasing operational complexity, airports need smarter tools to maintain performance and stay ahead,” added Kappes.

The application of ApronAI on MUC shows that AI is a vision for the future and is delivering real-world results today.
