This initiative, developed in partnership with the local non-governmental organisation (NGO) Gansu QingSuo Philanthropy Development Center, aims to serve as a barrier against the continuous desertification threatening the region.

Sown with 5,000 sacsaoul trees donated by HAECO Engine Services (Xiamen), the plantation is strategically located between the Badain Jaran Desert and Tengger Desert – the third and fourth largest deserts in the Chinese Mainland. With over 90 percent of Min-qin County already covered by desert, the drought-resistant trees will act as an ecological barrier against the converging of these arid expanses, which could jeopardise the survival of Min-qin county and its 170,000 inhabitants.

“At HAECO, we are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental protection,” said Summit Chan, Group Director of Corporate Development at HAECO Group. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to make a tangible, positive impact on the environment and protect local livelihoods through this tree plantation project in Gansu. This initiative aligns with our core values as we work towards our Sustainable Development 2030 goals to support a thriving future for all.”

Simon Smith, Director & General Manager of HAECO Engine Services, added, “HAECO is delighted to partner with Gansu QingSuo Philanthropy Development Center on this important initiative, which aligns with our commitment to sustainable development. We hope the new plantation can help ward off desertification and raise awareness of the need to conserve our natural resources.”

The HAECO plantation builds upon the work of Gansu QingSuo Philanthropy Development Center, which has already established six forests covering 10,210 acres in the Min-qin area through volunteer efforts. This collaborative project reflects HAECO’s dedication to making a tangible difference in local communities and contributing to the preservation of the environment.
