Press Release: TagAirlines touts 2023 traffic growth, modernization plan

Press Release hub banner blue with title in red white and blueAt the end of 2023, TagAirlines, Guatemala’s flag carrier, transported 365,000 passengers, which represented a growth of 26 percent compared to the volume of transfers reported the previous year.

Marcela Toriello, President and CEO of TagAirlines, said that the new year represents great challenges and opportunities for commercial aviation, travel and international tourism.

He explained that, in 2024, TagAirlines will advance in its modernization and transformation process, to consolidate its role as the flag carrier of Guatemala and the airline of the Mundo Maya par excellence.

He said that the airline welcomes the new year with a clear strategy that will allow progress to be made in strengthening the air fleet, with the incorporation of new ATR 72 aircraft, for a total of four new aircraft.

TagAirlines will also strengthen promotional strategies and relationships with commercial partners, destinations and tour operators, through its participation in events of great relevance in the tourism agenda, such as the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2024) and the Tianguis Turístico México to be held in Acapulco, among others.

Marcela Toriello recalled that TagAirlines began a new era with the relaunch of the brand, which included various actions such as the strengthening of its air fleet, the renewal of its corporate image and new commercial alliances.

Additionally, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) awarded TagAirlines the IOSA Certification (IATA Operational Safety Audit), which is a well-known and internationally accepted system designed to evaluate the management of airline operating and control systems. IOSA certification allows TagAirlines to expand the network of commercial alliances with other airlines, codeshares and interlines.

Currently, TagAirlines operates 47 daily flights with a commercial fleet of eight aircraft and connects five countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and Mexico. In the case of Mexico, it flies from Guatemala City to Cancun, Merida and Tuxtla Gutierrez.
