Ansgar Lübbehusen, a spokesperson for Lufthansa Systems confirmed the agreement, saying, “BoardConnect Portable was launched last fall and is designed for carriers wishing to avoid high capital outlay in permanently installed hardware and install IFE mainly in smaller aircraft that are used for short- and medium-haul flights. The advantage of the all-in-one solution is that all of the technical components needed for an IFE system – such as a server and access points – are combined in a single device, the Mobile Streaming Unit (MSU)

“Passengers from Eurowings will be able to access the entertainment program via their own smartphone or tablet with an attractive choice of movies, music, games e.g.”

Each MSU provides the highest quality streamed content for up to 50 clients. By utilizing 2 or 3 devices, airlines can address a complete single aisle aircraft. The whole system weighs no more than 1 kg. By classifying each MSU as loose equipment, BoardConnect Portable saves on the high initial investment for hardware and certification. The device can simply be slipped into a frame on the wall or placed in the aircraft galley.
